Gorillas are the largest and most powerful of all primates. The silverback male protects the group and his position by beating his chest and roaring.

Sven is a corn snake who was
confiscated by Australian Customs in 1999 after entering Australia as a victim of the illegal pet
trade. A number of corn snakes, including Sven, had been wrapped tightly in
socks and placed inside remote controlled toy cars and fire engines. many
animals die through this irresponsible and illegal practiuce.
Luckily,
Sven was brought to the Zoo for veterinary checks and period of quarantine and
has lived at the Education Centre ever since. Sven is introduced to visitors
and forms part of the education against the illegal pet trade.
