Gorilla gorilla gorilla
Gorillas are the largest and most powerful of all primates. The silverback male protects the group and his position by beating his chest and roaring. Foraging for fruits and leaves during the day, they build nests to sleep in each night. Together with Chimpanzees, Gorillas are our closest living relatives.
Born in 1977, Kibabu the silverback leads the group at Taronga Zoo. He is a perfect role model for the group exercising firm and fair control over the three adult females, Kriba, Frala, and Mouila, and his three children Mbeli, Fataki and Kimya. Kimya can be recognized by her white band of hair around her left wrist.
