Giraffes are a hoofed animal which are called ungulates.
It’s not just us trainers that can get up close to the birds. During the show two lucky volunteers will experience a very intimate encounter with Angus, our Rufous Owl, or one of our galahs, Jojo or Jasper. It doesn’t end there though as after the show there are a some opportunities to man (hold on a gloved hand) ‘Nangaw’, our Powerful Owl. Powerful Owls are a rare species found along parts of the east coast of Australia facing threat mainly from land clearing. ‘Nangaw’ was found at three months of age on a farm property in Camden tangled in a barbwire fence. Luckily she was found and brought to the zoo where she is now all fixed up and a permanent star.
We have three very dedicated parrots that collect your donations after show. To date that have raised over $75,000 and the total keeps going up. This money is very important and goes towards the zoos’ conservation efforts including helping Little Penguins, Regent Honey Eaters, the Murray Darling Catchment and Daintree Rainforest.
