Unlike other big cats, lions live in long-term social groups called 'prides'.
Taronga Western Plains Zoo's Work Experience program is for school students interested in pursuing a career in Zoo-keeping, animal care or zoo horticulture. The program is voluntary, unpaid and for school students in Years 10, 11 and 12.
One successful applicant per school will be assigned for one week's duration (Monday through Friday), excluding school and public holidays.
Students and Careers Advisers are required to read the Work Experience policy.
Taronga Western Plains Zoo accepts students with special needs, providing any necessary support is available and students are suitable for particular Zoo work areas.
Please download the following files for detailed information on the application process.
We expect the program to fill quickly this year so please send your completed forms in as soon as possible.

Ultimately your school will approve the work experience placement so please direct all of your communication to the school Careers Adviser. Please do not contact the zoo as our arrangements are also subject to the school calendar and we will be required to contact the school.
